The Ray Charles 12-Bar Blues Piano Lick – Piano Lesson

The Ray Charles 12-Bar Blues Piano Lick – Piano Lesson

Today’s lesson is on a Ray Charles blues progression from the song What I’d Say. This song features a lot of really cool stuff, we’ve got a sweet bass line in the left hand. We got some cool kind of pulsing chord movements in the right, and then we’ve got an awesome little (blues piano music) lick that caps off the whole thing. So we’re gonna look at each part of those. So let’s start at the beginning with that bass line. The bass line’s really simple. It consists of, again it’s this 12-bar pattern. It’s in the key of E. (piano chord) So that means we have three chords to work with. We got an E chord.

(piano note) We got an A. (piano note) And we got a B...

HOW TO PLAY MUSIC BY EAR (ear training for musicians)

( “Senorita” by Justin Timberlake) – Hi, YouTube, this is Julian Bradley. Today I’m going to talk about ear train. So I’ve got some advice which will speed up the process. First of all you need to get in the habit of listening to music in another way. Every piece of music you hear you need to be thinking what are the intervals? Whether it’s a trail on the radio, in a club, someone’s phone travelling off, a police siren travelling by, the fowls singing you want to be thinking, okay, what is that interval? What are those notes? Second of all my advice is when you’re starting out to try and stick to one key and to work in that key.

Doing that will construct you recognize a lot quicker that they’re the same notes that are coming up and the same chords, particularly in pop music, it’s the same ...

Modern Jazz – Tonal vs Modal Harmony

Hi guys, So, I thought I’d make a series of lessons about Modern Jazz Theory. Now Modern Jazz Theory can be described as the gradual rejection and reshaping of traditional music theory. So, in these videos I’m going to go through how Jazz moved away from your more traditional music theory towards more exotic and avant-garde music theory. So, essentially, how Jazz moved from Tonality, which is the more traditional Jazz, into Modality, which is Modal Jazz, and then all the way through into atonality, which is more your Free Jazz. And just as a pedantic aside, Free Jazz is not necessarily atonal, but rather this is just a broad generalization of a general trend of Jazz moving away from tonality into atonality, as it moves towards Free Jazz...

How to Start Piano Lessons for Pre-School Aged Children

Hi. Therefore welcomed The Piano Podcast. I’m Mario Ajero. In this video, I want to show some forte-piano pieces that you could teach to young preschool children as young as age three to prepare them for traditional piano lessons. I’m hoping this video is useful to both professional piano teachers as well as mothers who only want to give their young children a head start on piano lessons. One of the first activities that you can actually do at the keyboard is to teach your kids that the piano shall be made available in two black key and three black keys. Can you play two black keys like this? Once infants can find the two black keys, you can do short rhythmic patterns alternating between the two black keys like this one...

Post-bop Explained

Ok, so one thing you need to know about Post-bop, is that Post-bop is weird. By the mid-1 960′ s the rise of Free Jazz had shaken the foundation of Jazz. So mainstream jazz had to somehow find a way to answer the avant-garde; and that answer was a genre called Post-bop. Now, Post-bop mixes elements of Bebop, Hard-bop, Modal and Free Jazz without undoubtedly being any one of those wordings. And Post-bop was more or less invented by Miles Davis’s Second Great Quintet. So a lot of what I’m going to say here reports directly to this group. Now, I’ve got a separate video on Free Jazz which you can watch, but virtually Free Jazz was a reaction to Traditional Tonal Jazz, like Bebop. So Traditional Tonal Jazz utilized diatonic chords, functional chord advances, and was in a diatonic key...
